Welcome
I guess I'm a Substack-er now?
I decided to start a blog… but I’m not sure why
I’m feeling a lot of creative energy coming through, and that might have something to do with the fact that I’m a few weeks pregnant with my 4th child. I want to create and work while I feel well enough to do so and, well, this is what I’ve landed on. I know what I want to write about, and I know who I want to write to. So here I am and here you are.
About Me
I am a Catholic wife and mother to 3 wonderful boys and 1 belly-baby, as my kids call it. We don’t yet know whether baby is a boy or a girl, and we won’t know until he or she is born. This will be my second freebirth. I’m a Birth Keeper, childbirth educator, freebirth coach, and sourdough-er. My incredible husband, James, is an officer in the Navy and our family is stationed in San Diego, CA. We have an amazing in-person community here, and we’re grateful every day for the opportunity to create such meaningful connections with people, several of which, live right here in our neighborhood.
I want to write about…
While I have a small following on Instagram, the platform is often very limited. I don’t like engaging in 100 comments with people (especially when it amounts to free coaching), and you can only say so much in a caption or a carousel. So I’m excited to venture out to a new (to me) platform to express more nuanced ideas and discuss more complex topics, as well as share more intimate details of my personal life that I don’t often put out on Instagram. These will include:
Topical internet ideas or trends
The Catholic faith and how it informs my ideas and beliefs
Holistic mothering
The politics of birth culture
Many more, I’m sure
Full disclosure
While this could serve as a disclaimer for some, I see it as an effort to be open and transparent about who I am, what I believe, and how I see the world. My orientation will always be toward God, as He reveals Himself through Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition, safeguarded and expressed through the Catholic faith, as well as God’s design for our bodies, our healing, our births, and our lives. I believe in the body’s innate ability to heal when it is supported to do so. I am very biased toward normal, physiological birth, and I believe it to be the optimal way for birth to unfold in almost all cases. I believe that mothers are irreplaceable and that the Motherbaby bond is designed to be a means of sanctification and continuation for the entire human race.
This is me, a few minutes after giving birth to my 3rd baby on the floor of my bedroom with only my husband present.
Thank you
Thanks for being here! I really appreciate your willingness to read what I have to say, and I look forward to connecting with you soon.
